Bring It On

Stefan Sagmeister × ekn footwear

Data in motion.

Bring It On brings a data visualisation by Stefan Sagmeister to the understated silhouette of the Tsuga.

The work captures the current state of global renewable electricity generation. It is based on data from the Energy Institute, visualised by Our World in Data. For the shoe, the graphic was adapted to the individual panels of the sneaker and its three dimensional form.

Rather than being printed, the visualisation is embroidered directly onto chrome free tanned suede. Position, linework and precision were refined through several rounds with embroidery specialists. The complete data breakdown also appears on the footbed.

Bring It On was created in connection with Stefan Sagmeister’s exhibition “Finally, Something Good.” at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris. The idea is simple: art usually stays where it is exhibited. A shoe can leave the room and carry the work into everyday life.

“A work of art usually stays where it is exhibited. A shoe can walk out.”

Note: based on the Tsuga silhouette and slightly narrower in fit.
